Isolation and characterization of lipoprotein B from high-density human serum lipoproteins.

1. Lipoprotein B from female Lp(a)-lipoprotein-negative serum was isolated from the fraction of density 1.073-1.125 by using immunoadsorbent; 2.5mg of freeze-dried material was obtained from 100ml of serum from a fasting patient. 2. The hydrated density of this lipoprotein was found to be 1.084g/cm(3). A flotation rate F(1.200) of 9.4 and lipid/protein ratio 1.40 were found, similar to that of ...

Studies on the protein defect in Tangier disease. Isolation and characterization of an abnormal high density lipoprotein.

High density lipoproteins (d 1.063-1.210 g/ml) were isolated from the plasma of normal individuals (HDL) and seven homozygous patients with Tangier disease (HDLt). In Tangier patients, the concentration of protein in the high density region (HDLt) was only 0.5-4.5% of normal. Immunochemical studies, including mixing experiments conducted in vivo and in vitro, indicated that HDLt was different f...

Serum Lipid Profile Alterations in Acute Leukemia Before and After Chemotherapy

Background: Serum lipids abnormalities have been observed in various forms of cancers including acute leukemia. Investigators report decreased total cholesterol and HDL, and elevated triglyceride in leukemic patients. Limited studies had been performed to discover the correlation between abnormal lipids profile and disease activity in leukemic patients in Iran. This study was done to evaluate t...

Relationship between High-Density Lipoprotein and C-reactive Protein in Patients with Atherosclerosis

Abstract Background and Objective: Atherosclerosis is an inflammatory disease mostly caused by oxidation of low density lipoproteins (LDLs) while High-density lipoproteins (HDLs) oppose atherosclerosis by inhibiting the oxidation of LDLs. Serum concentration of C- reactive protein (CRP) also increases as an acute phase protein in inflammatory conditions like atherosclerosis. We aimed to evalu...

The degradation of platelet-activating factor in the plasma of a patient with familial high density lipoprotein deficiency (Tangier disease).

Platelet Activating Factor (PAF) (1-O-alkyl-2-acetyl sn-glycerol 3-phosphocholine) has been characterized by its ability to aggregate platelets at low concentrations and its profound hypotensive effects. There is evidence that the rate of catabolism of this compound in the plasma regulates its concentration. In humans, we and others have shown that a PAF acetylhydrolase is associated with low d...
